The Region 21 Fall Conference will be hosted by the Greater Omaha Iris Society August 9th and 10th.  Join us for an interesting and educational conference.  Region 21 AIS members should have/should soon receive the notice and registration form.  You can also download the information and registration form here (PDF).  Further details below.

Fall Educational Sessions, Business Meetings, & Auction to be held:

Friday and Saturday, August 9-10, 2013

Hosted by the Greater Omaha Iris Society

Featuring guest speaker Robert Hollingworth, noted Siberian iris hybridizer and current President of the AIS Foundation

Iris Auction August 10th at 1:30 PM

Purchase recently introduced iris rhizome from Sutton’s, Stout’s and Ensata Gardens.  A selection of new bearded and beardless varieties will be available for bid.  (auction is open to the public)

Educational Sessions* (Saturday morning):
Session I: Awards & Balloting
Session II:  Judging Siberian Iris presented by Robert Hollingworth
* educational sessions meet criteria for judges training c.e. from the AIS.

Conference sessions and activities will take place at Mammel Hall, located on the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Ak-Sar-Ben Technology Campus.  The first NU system building to earn gold LEED certification, the facility is a showpiece of technology and artful design.

Conference cost is $45.00 per person

(banquet only and youth prices are available)

Conference registration includes:

  • Friday evening reception
  • Educational Sessions
  • Saturday luncheon and business meetings
  • Saturday evening banquet and program presented by Robert Hollingworth

Pre-registration is required for all events.

A limited number of seats for Mr. Hollingworth’s morning presentation are available to non-conference participants for $5.00 per person (10:00 AM Saturday, August 10th).

Champange and StrawberriesReminder – The registration deadline for the Spring Regional Convention in Sioux City, IA on Saturday, May 18, 2013 is coming soon.  In case you have not received your form, here is a PDF you can download and mail.  Registration is $50 per person which includes the Iris Tour of homes and one public garden, a deluxe box lunch on the tour, and the banquet dinner to be held that evening.  Please preregister, the cut-off date for preregistration is April 30, 2013.

Check-in is either Friday evening at the Super 8 Motel or Saturday morning at the Super 8 Motel.before the bus tour leaves at 9:00 a.m.  Note there will be a Social for those attending on Friday evening at the home of Bob Flick.  See the form for additional details and addresses and contact information.

Greater Omaha Iris Society Iris Show – May 11, 2013

The Greater Omaha Iris Society Iris Show will be held Saturday, May 11th at the Douglas/Sarpy County Extension Office at 8015 West Center Road in Omaha.  Open to the public at no charge from 12:30 to 4:00 PM.   1-1/2 hours of Judges training will be offered during the show.

Exhibitors:  Entries accepted from 7:30 to 9:30 AM.  Iris entered in the Horticulture Division must be correctly identified as to variety name and grown by the exhibitor.  Arrangements may also be entered in the artistic design division.  An exhibitor may enter only one exhibit per class, but may enter as many classes as desired.   Judging will be done by judges of the National Council of State Garden Clubs and/or The American Iris Society.  

Upcoming Events – 2013-2014

Upcoming meetings include the 2013 and the 2014 AIS Conventions – both in Dallas.  At the Region 21 Fall 2012 meeting, Dell Perry, one of our speakers,  described the gardens convention goers will be able to visit in 2013.  Dates for the 2013 Convention are April 15 – 20.  See also the AIS 2013 Convention page for additional details.  This is immediately followed (April 21 – 23) by the Society for Louisiana Irises 2013 National Convention at the same location.  The Iris Society of Dallas is hosting all three of these meetings.
