Lincoln Iris Society Show – May 14, 2016

Magellan - After the storm

Magellan-May-12

If you are in or about Lincoln, Nebraska this weekend please stop by the LIS show. It should be a good one! In our garden, we are in peak Tall Bearded bloom with many Siberians in full bloom, as well. On Monday, May 9th, the city was hit with a severe storm, complete with pounding rain and lots of hail. We escaped the larger hail, but thought you might like to see what nickel-size hail did to our irises. All open flowers were shredded and a few stalks were broken off. Here is a photo of Magellan (Roger Nelson, 1994) the morning after the storm. The second photo is also Magellan taken today, May 12th. The irises have rebounded nicely.

Here are the particulars of the show:

Date: Saturday, May 14, 2016

Time: 1 to 4:30 PM

Place: Meadow Lane Elementary School

7200 Vine Street, Lincoln, Nebraska

(about 2 blocks east of the intersection of 70th Street and Vine Street)

The show is judged and you are welcome to enter your named irises. Stalks must be groomed and on the table by 10:00 AM. Or just stop by in the afternoon to check out the show.
